I had indeed overlooked part 2 of the review. - The caveat at i-tunes can be read as a warning for the beginner that bats are not always cooperative, so perseverance is required. The advice wasn't too sobering, as it is just the same with birds. But such a reminder is always welcome.
Best regards, StefanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6251794512793454139.post-81189056327696345622014-07-29T14:51:19.260-04:002014-07-29T14:51:19.260-04:00Thank you very much, for the kind words. I appreciate it!

As for the Disclaimer, on The iTunes Site: I've always considered it to be a mandatory type of "warning", which must be printed, to protect WA against any accusations of false claims (in re: to accuracy). So, in my opinion, I've always looked at it as the company (WA) simply protecting themselves, etc.

One of the main reasons why an EM Touch would be a great choice for a Beginner, is that it will constantly be improving...And, new features are sure to be added along the way - So that a beginner surely would not become "bored" anytime soon!

In fact, the same classifiers from Kaleidoscope are now being used in The EM Touch Software. And, all of these areas will continue to improve and expand.
They do plan to add more Species...I do realize your frustration, having your local Species missing...On this point, you could always e-mail Wildlife Acoustics, to inquire about the status of those five.

I'm sorry that Part 2 (and "Part 1.5") were not easy to find - They were already written...But, I've included Links to them (at the bottom of Part 1).
Thanks again! I wish you the best of luck!
-Albatdetectors@gmail.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03073278129551997043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6251794512793454139.post-23594177576803324762014-07-27T05:23:53.004-04:002014-07-27T05:23:53.004-04:00Superb site, and a careful, very informative revie...Superb site, and a careful, very informative review. The Echo Meter Touch seems to be an excellent tool. I consider a purchase.

The i-tunes site says: "Auto ID is intended for use in analyzing recordings of single bats in free flight in low clutter environments. [...] Recordings of roost emergence, multiple bats, captive bats or bats in high clutter environments are not suitable for Auto ID and results may not be accurate."

This seems to explain the modest price, merely a tenth of the $1,500 for the "Kaleidoscope Pro" software of the same company. I am not complaining - it may still be the best choice for this beginner. I am just trying to get an idea. So if I understand the i-tunes store information correctly, for "single bats in free flight in low clutter environments" AUTO-ID will come up with a result in one of two attempts. And the identification will be correct in "with 80% accuracy", which means it fails in 1 of five cases. That sounds pretty good for this bloody bat beginner from Baden-Württemberg/Germany.

The "Available Kaleidoscope Classifiers" for the UK (which may or may not be identical which what goes into the "AUTO-ID" software) include nine of the 14 bats which are known to exist in my area, near the Black Forest. Five are missing, however: Myotis mystacinus, Myotis bechsteinii, Myotis myotis, Plecotus auritus, Plecotus austriacus. Here is hoping that the company will eventually upgrade not only the PRO version, but also the AUTO-ID version.

I am looking forward to part 2 of your review. Continue your excellent work.

Stefan, Pforzheim/GermanyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6251794512793454139.post-35965241301964114942014-05-23T13:06:29.153-04:002014-05-23T13:06:29.153-04:00Hi Erwin,
